Cathy Hutchinson, Clinical Training & Education Lead for the North, has been with us for over two decades. She told us “When I first started at Fresenius Medical Care, there were just a handful of clinics. Over ten years it was built up to twenty, and now there are many more.” This was echoed by Steve Mahoney, our Commercial Services Director, who said “We’ve gone from seven clinics to sixty. That’s some massive growth and development in not many years.” Cathy continues, “Despite the growing numbers of clinics, we still only invest in state-of-the-art units, services and technology, which means employees are working with the best of the best to ensure positive outcomes for patients.”
Delyth Timmis, a Senior Clinic Manager who has also been with us for 20 years, agrees. She told us, “We’ve grown a lot over the last 20 years, and with that, there’s been a growing desire for patient care. We’re undeniably committed to improving practice wherever we can, and in doing so, we have become a world leader.” Growth in technology is something that Tracey Gentry, our Purchasing Team Leader, pointed out as being a key area of development for the business. She said, “25 years ago, when I first started, we had to do everything by hand, printing off orders on paper. Over time, everything has been upgraded which has been great.”
Some might say that Fresenius Medical Care UK & Ireland has grown so much over the last quarter of a century, that it’s hardly the same organisation that it was all those years ago. Laura Bell, Chief Financial Officer of Fresenius Medical Care UK & Ireland explained that “It doesn’t feel like I’ve been with the same company for the last 15 years. There’s been so much evolution. So many new developments in technology and new structures in the company. We’re always working towards getting the best fit for everyone.”
Delyth echoed this, saying “Over time the product side of the business has merged with the clinic side, and this has been beneficial to everyone. We’re able to collaborate better and can work alongside each other to reach our goals together.”
Kathryn Miller looked at the growth in a different way, “I remember my first day like it was yesterday. Although there have been many changes in the business, people have come and gone over the years, and despite all the growth, one thing has always remained, and that is our vision – that the patient is always the number one priority.”
Now the global market leader in dialysis therapies and dialysis products, Fresenius Medical Care UK & Ireland will continue to improve dialysis technology and introduce new, innovative treatments using expertise in digitalisation, data analytics, and artificial intelligence to create a better future for renal healthcare.
Looking back at Fresenius Medical Care UK 25 years ago, gives us an opportunity to look at how much has changed for the benefit of staff and patients alike. Moving forward, we’ll continue to develop as a business, and we’re looking forward to what is to come.
