25th Anniversary celebrations FMC UK: it’s not just a job, it’s a career

This September we’ve celebrated our 25th anniversary at Fresenius Medical Care UK. Since our inception in 1996, we’ve come a long way, and so have many of our employees – with some working their whole career with us.

We’re proud to offer continuous Training and Development Programmes throughout our employee’s careers, ensuring we’re supporting them as they work towards their next goal. Our staff may just join us for a job, but they stay with us for a career. Some of our most long-standing employees have done exactly this.

Cathy Hutchinson, the Clinical Training & Educational Lead for the North told us, “It was really important to me to work somewhere where I could grow. Over the 20 years that I’ve worked for Fresenius Medical Care, I’ve progressed through 8 jobs! Each one of those jobs has helped me get one step further in my career and the training and development that FMC UK offers has played a big role in that.”

With prospects in all areas of the business, there is a huge range of job and progression opportunities for our staff. This is what Commercial Services Director, Steve Mahoney, singles out as a key reason for remaining with us for as long as he has. In addition to the variety of job roles, he also told us, “Fresenius Medical Care UK is unique in its dedication to putting the patient at the forefront of everything they do. A big part of securing patient safety around the clock, is ensuring that staff across the business are constantly training and developing to get the best possible skills for their role, which reflects on our high-quality patient care.”

Not only do our Training and Development Programmes provide a reason for our employees to stay with us on a long-term basis, but also many cited the people as a reason they’ve stayed with us for as long as they have - both patients and employees.

Senior Clinic Manager, Delyth Timmis, has been with Fresenius Medical Care UK for 20 years. She said, “It’s amazing to work alongside others who I know have the same commitment and engagement to the job as I do. I love sharing the passion for patient care with others around me.”

Laura Bell, our Chief Financial Officer UK & Ireland, agrees, “I’ve been working for Fresenius Medical Care UK all this time mostly due the brilliant people.” This is echoed by Tracey Gentry, the UK’s Purchasing Demand Planner, “I’m happy at work because I am surrounded by people who care about the same things as me. Some of my fondest memories are when we all get together, and even though people come and go, we stay in touch.”

We strive to ensure our employees are feeling supported, listened to and have access to the right kind of training. On top of our development programmes, we offer various wellbeing programmes, such as access to bhsf RISE and recently we undertook a Meeting Free Week to give our employees a virtual rest. Q and A’s with the Board throughout the pandemic and beyond cemented the two-way communication channel between the Senior team and employees, ensuring their ideas and concerns were being heard.

At Fresenius Medical Care, we are one team of many disciplines working together to find new and innovative ways to provide the highest level of care to our patients, superior products and service to our customers. Our employees are integral to this, so it’s crucial that they feel valued in their role.
