Celebrating World Kidney Day at Fresenius Medical Care UK

This March saw the arrival of World Kidney Day, an annual day that focuses on the importance of kidney health and raising awareness of what happens if someone has chronic kidney disease. This year at Fresenius Medical Care UK (FME UK), we embraced the global theme "Kidney Health for All" with our own unique twist, focusing on "Kidney health starts with awareness".

The team had a fun-filled day at the head office, with various activities across the day aimed at increasing awareness, understanding, and raising money for kidney health charities. Activities included a bake sale, guess the number of kidneys (jellybeans) in the jar, as well as written material and an informative video for people to watch. In all, the team raised a brilliant £152.40 in one day, which will be donated to kidney charities to support the work they do.

Our team also hosted a drop-in clinic led by Susie Le Gallez, Lead Therapy Specialist Nurse for In-Centre at FME UK. The clinic offered home testing kits for protein in urine, blood pressure checks, and invaluable advice and support on maintaining good kidney health. Our HR team also ran an employee engagement and wellbeing room – providing a space for colleagues to come in and chat about the wellbeing offerings we have available. The success of our World Kidney Day celebration was made possible by the passionate involvement of our employees and the leadership team.

Victoria Monk, a member of our Community and Social Committee, the team responsible for organising the day, shared:

"Being a member of the social committee, I’ve found it extremely rewarding planning an event for such a good cause. It's been great to see the buzz in the office and participation from all." Her words reflect the collective spirit and commitment of our team towards making a meaningful difference.

Chris Slater, Managing Director of Commercial Operations, echoed this sentiment, stating:

“Looking around the building, I’m immensely proud of the team’s efforts and kind donations towards our company mission of creating a future worth living for patients worldwide every day.”

His pride in our team's efforts underscores the shared vision and dedication that propel us forward in our mission.

Moving Forward: A Commitment to Kidney Health and Wellbeing

As we reflect on the success of our World Kidney Day celebration, we are reminded of the ongoing need to raise awareness and support for kidney health. At FME UK, our commitment to creating a future worth living extends beyond a single day of activities. It is woven into every day and reflects our efforts to innovate, educate, and support our communities.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated, contributed, and supported our World Kidney Day initiatives.

As we look ahead, let's carry forward the momentum and continue to advocate for kidney health and wellbeing. After all, it's through our collective efforts that we can make the most significant impact.
