Tuesday 12th May Marks International Nurses Day

Every year, May 12th is observed as ‘International Nurses Day’ around the world. This day marks the birthday of one of the most famous Nurses in history, Florence Nightingale. Nightingale is revered as the founder of modern nursing care, and her commitment to society is honoured around the world. International Nurses Day 2020 is even more special, as this year, Tuesday 12th May marked the anniversary of what would have been her 200th birthday. The day assumed even more significance this year, due to the fact that the world is facing a grievous challenge in the form of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Every day, thousands of clinical staff across the globe make a significant contribution to the well-being of patients who are treated in Fresenius Medical Care clinics. As we enter a new phase in the fight against Coronavirus across the UK and Ireland, we recognise the sacrifice given by hundreds of our own nursing heroes, who willingly put themselves in harm's way each day. The bravery, strength, tenacity, strong collaboration and team work is demonstrated every single day in our NephroCare clinics and we are continuously overwhelmed by their dedication to provide the highest standard of care in the most unprecedented times. This year, on the 12th May, the day wasn’t just for Florence Nightingale, the day was dedicated to these heroes.

Celebrations were carried out in clinics across the nation, and our most collaborative, reliable, proactive and excellent team members were rewarded for their outstanding efforts, and awarded with certificates and a special thank you from the teams they work alongside. Chris Chisholm, Director of Nursing UK & Ireland proudly added "Nursing is not an easy job, and those of you who dedicate your life to this profession must be respected and celebrated. The dedication you show on a daily basis within your role is outstanding and I take great comfort in the knowledge that our patients receive the best possible care, and are placed at the heart of everything we do"

Please join us by thanking our Nurses around the UK & Ireland, and continue to show them the respect and appreciation they deserve for their unwavering compassion and commitment to their jobs each and every day.
